About The Program ::
The Red Cross Ready Rating™ Program is a first-of-its-kind Membership program that guides businesses, organizations, and schools in preparing for emergencies, and recognizes its Members for their commitment to preparedness. Organizations that display a Red Cross Ready Rating Program Member Seal have made a commitment to complete five steps designed to improve emergency preparedness.

History

Each year, the American Red Cross and the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter conduct their own primary research to determine the attitudes and practices of citizens when it comes to preparedness. It was this research that showed that though many Americans and St. Louisans had been personally affected by emergencies and disasters, there was still much more that could be done to prepare.

Recently, FOCUS St. Louis convened a community taskforce to look at disaster preparedness in the region. The report, released in 2007, also showed the need for greater community preparedness.

Based on the clear need for increased preparedness, the American Red Cross St. Louis Area Chapter developed the Ready Rating Program. Anheuser-Busch stepped up to become the Founding Sponsor and their commitment helped to launch the program.

To help you with reviewing our materials, we have created an emergency preparedness glossary to explain some of the terms. If there are other words or phrases you believe would be helpful to include, please contact the Ready Rating Program Supervisor.
